Torts and Crim in same semester

I'm taking both Torts and Crim this semester and the word is that it could get confusing learning the two during the same semester. I can see why and so I want to make sure I start off strong and make sure I can differentiate the two from the beginning.

Anyone have any helpful tips? How did you manage to study both without getting confused? What's the mindset I need to have?

Thanks in advance.

No need to have a special mindset to differentiate the two.

Yes they're similar. But not to the extent you would need to worry about taking them simultaneously

You'll get tired of reading cases about people dying in horrific ways, but I don't think there will be a problem. Crim is heavily statutory and Torts is heavily common law.

Just leave the crim off the torts final and the torts off the crim final and you'll be fine. You won't accidentally confuse the two, you'll have to intentionally go out of your way to piss your professors off.

I took them both my first semester of 1L. Don't think it was a problem.

The only areas that were a bit confusing were nuances like the common law "battery" tort being the "assault" crime in New York.

I also had this when I was a 1L. In fact, it was my first semester in law school. It's dumb, schools shouldn't schedule them together IMO.

Anyways it can be easy to separate them. I think in criminal law, you shouldn't spend substantial time going over offenses that are similar to intentional torts. They are more like common sense in criminal law. Of course, it depends on the professor, but I'm pretty sure you'll spend more time on robbery, murder, felony murder, conspiracy etc. However, in Torts, intentional torts are a large part of the course. Just remember, what class you're in when you start using terms like "guilty, plaintiff, state, offense."

I can't be alone in wondering how this is a problem.
