Multiple Choice Practice Problems & Not Repeating Mistakes

First time poster, 2L at T2. Quick question about studying habits and how to improve my multiple choice taking ability
When reviewing multiple choice question and I get a question in correct, I understand what I did wrong immediately after I read the correct answer. However, later on in the multiple choice series, when the circumstances change, I fall for the same mistake, despite knowing the law, I make the same mistake basically from the change in circumstance.
Is my method of review incorrect? Do I need to change my mindset and understand what leads me to the incorrect choice? Am I overthinking some of these questions? Closer reading? Memorize more exceptions to rules?
Thank you for any help!
