Re: ACLU Salary Scale?
I had a mock interview with an ACLU attorney a couple weeks ago, and he seemed to suggest that it's about 55-60 when you start and it moves up to 70-80. Still, you have to keep a couple of things in mind
(1) The ACLU almost NEVER talks someone for litigation work unless they have clerked/worked for a couple years so in a way, 55K isn't really entry level.
(2) This is the salary information for people at the national headquarters in NYC
So, it's not a luxurious lifestyle. 70-80 sounds pretty nice and it is. You can certainly live off of it, and it would be luxurious anywhere except NYC. A nice 2BR apartment in a "low cost" area of Manhattan or nice part of Brooklyn can run you 900,000. Suddenly 80K isn't worth what you might have thought.
