Do you still have an incomplete term in your lease or have you gone month-to-month? That will probably prove important as you research further to figure out (1) if your ability to have a pet at the property is a property right included in your lease and (2) if such a right can be suspended unilaterally prior to the end of the term.
ETA: That's somewhere to start. arklaw was getting at the fact that no one can give you legal advice here.

Courts have said landlords can't charge extra for service animals. Service animals are a necessary accommodation like a wheel chair. Get your doc to write a script.

Yeah, OP, that is a really shitty situation, but no one here can give you legal advice and asking for legal advice is against the rules. So, I mean, if anyone has any advice for how they handled a landlord in a similar situation, that's one thing, but no one can tell you what your legal options are.

I don't even think the dog is relevant. Once your lease is up, the landlord can probably throw you out (with appropriate notice) for no reason at all. Google 'tenancy at will' and your state.
(not legal advice)

In CA, a landlord has no power to even restrict you having a service animal, much less forcing you to vacate due to one. So if you got your doctor to prescribe a service animal (is that the right term?) for, say, anxiety, then you'd be able to say.
(This is not legal advice. I know this to be true because a friend did it...with his obnoxious and anxious chihuahua.)

Of course, you'd also want to look into whether any dog would count as a service animal just based on your say-so or if it would have to be somehow certified. (And yes, there are internet certifications out there similar to internet ministries, but you probably don't want to just blindly take their word on what the law is considering they're just trying to get $50-100 out of you).

You're month to month, you have no rights beyond the month, and your landlord has given you notice of change in the month to month tenancy, you have to move.
