Exams with Hypo Statutes

After taking a few practice exams to get familiar with law school exams, I'm finding the exams that have made up rules and statutes to be the most difficult.

Any tips or strategies on these exams?

If you are an 0L, practice exams are unlikely to make any sense to you, and there isn't a lot of point in attempting them until you have some class time under your belt. (Also, if you haven't started law school yet you're not supposed to post in this forum.)

Wait until you actually have some vague clue as to what you should be doing or looking for.

At this time last year, I was getting wasted and acting like an idiot.

Today, I am top 20% and a summer intern for a prestigious firm.

If you are already in law school mode, ditch the PT's and find 2L's or 3L's that previously had your semesters AND did well in their class.

Without having taken the classes yet you don't have all the arguments at your disposal to attack statute hypos. Mainly though you are can try and get around the statute by saying the activity was not covered for some reason or saying the purpose of the statute is not furthered by the act or try construing the text of the statute broadly vs. narrowly. There are a variety of arguments but as others have said without having taken a class yet it's normal to not have as many options. It's nothing to worry about now but if you want you can keep looking at exams with model answers just to get a feel for how they generally should be answered.

@lawhopeful10 Thank you for your response. The approach sounds similar to GTM which I feel could be helpful when I start next week.

@theincredibleTM I could always end up transferring lol
