Anyone currently live in Austin that could recommend a apartment complex that isn't ghetto, but also isn't $2000 a month?

I've heard good things about "the village"? Idk who can attest to it, but I know a couple UG's living there and they had nothing bad to say.

Some places to look. All of these would be easy bike ride/bus/drive to school every day.

Note, they just redid this place. It used to be called The Brownstones and if you look at Google Street view you'll see that it until very recently looked like ass. Trust me, it does not look like that anymore. Somebody spent a lot of money on that place. One day when I was driving by they were transplanting at least 15 25' palm trees onto the property.

It's a small complex in two great neighborhoods. It's on the south end of the North Loop neighborhood and the north end of the Hyde Park neighborhood.

If you're willing to spend more like $1300, look at the Camden Lamar Heights (brand new).

Getting around campus now will be either expensive or a crappy place, look farther away from campus.

Work Craigslist hard, that's where I had the best luck and found the best value.

Location wise, I'm in north campus, about a block or two north of Crown & Anchor (~12 min. walk to school), and love the area so far. Paying about 1100 for 600 sq ft and it's reasonably nice, if that helps give you a baseline.

Similar location to Will here, and I know a lot of us TLS 1Ls are living in that area.

Lived in this area for 1L. Some of the places can be straight up ghetto depending on your standards. But its very beneficial to be super close to school and Crown and Anchor.

C&A is right behind my apartment.

1) if you PM me i'll try to provide more thorough advice, since I've lived in austin for a few years, one of which was with an apartment locator

2) to that end, do use a locating service. it's free to you and makes your life easier.

3) stay away from West Campus. Try not to use one of the university-centric rental companies (512, University, Longhorn) since they don't cater to more professional-style humans and will be more apt to treat you like garbage.

BTW, if you're looking for a house or a condo to rent, two of the larger property management/lease realtor groups in town that do a lot of work with young professionals and grad students are Habitat Hunters and Eyes of Texas. Check their websites or drop them an email to see if they have anything of interest to you.

I will say that my experience with an Austin apartment finding service was not good, but that was some time ago.

Yeah I had a pretty poor experience this year as well (tried probably four or five companies).
