If this is not the appropriate forum for this topic I would greatly appreciate if it was moved accordingly.

Has anyone used this product or something similar?

It sounds interesting and possibly useful for a law student.

Lol, my search for a mobile scanner started with those, too.
But, it turns out there are better options out there. Use a Doxie or a Fujitsu ScanSnap. I have a Doxie Go and it works terrific. Fairly affordable, too.

You don't need this.

I looked into those as well but it seems that advantage of a pen is that it uploads text into a Word document. As someone who usually takes a lot of notes, I find the idea of the scan pen intriguing because it sounds like it would cut down time devoted to note-taking. I came across it a random "useful gadgets article" a friend sent me.

why is that? I'm not trying to be a dick, just looking for feedback.

Why wouldn't you just type your notes on a computer...?

Let me start by saying I'm about to be a 1L as well so I have no more experience than you. With that being said, I can't imagine that you're going to be writing so much that this is going to save you significant amounts of time. Plus, studies show one of the biggest reasons taking notes helps is because physically writing it helps you internalize the information.

I take all my notes by hand. Only thing I type up is a 10-15 page outline near the end. Having my notes in a word doc vs notebook would provide no benefit . . . in the end it is just going to be 10-15 pages that you recreate from scratch anyway.
Pen is interesting, but I think it would become a distraction and waste of time

This is what I was thinking - a "scan pen" sounds like a dandy way to get information from the book into your notes, without it ever having to actually pass through your mind.

I much prefer the idea of handwriting and then having to type my notes rather than it uploading them immediately, gets me actively engaged in the studying (note: 0L here but it helped with UG).

In other words, don't buy gimmicky shit you've never used in the past.
