Hi all,

I am doing a split summer and my second job does not start until July. Having said that, I will have to post my resume online for a couple of job fairs in the coming weeks, and was wondering if including that second job in my resume would be acceptable.

What do y'all think? (I know this is more of a question for career services but.....)

Putting on Resume risky it is. Job interviewers ask you a question on your job, no answer you may have. Also no experience have you yet gained to tell of. Wait until start of job you should.

The benefit you get from putting the job on the resume is potentially quite marginal. The risk is quite high. Seems crazy to do it.

Curious what the risk is?

If it says "DA's office, Springfield, USA July-Aug 2014" and the interviewer doesn't catch that it is the second half summer job and asks about it, can't the interviewer just clarify that they wanted to let them know what they would be doing for the second half of the summer and move on?

I don't see how that could get someone in trouble.

Putting an upcoming job on your resume is not risky and is done all the time. Just be clear about the dates so that it doesn't look like you are misrepresenting. You will be applying for jobs for next school year or summer, I assume. You will have completed the job by then, so the upcoming work would be relevant information for the prospective employer.

There's no risk if done properly. Most career services actually say to do this and the interviewers want to know what you're doing this summer (both what you've been doing and what you're going to be doing).

If it's a sure thing, then yea put it on there. You'll be able to talk about your xp at two places, instead of just the first. ``

There is no reason not to put it on your resume. In fact, it's a terrible idea not to do so. As others have said, just make sure the dates are clear, and where you would normally put bullet points with some responsibilties, just put * Summer Associate or whatever your title will be. It's much better to put a pending job than to look like you have nothing.

Yeah, especially if you include the expected end date for the first job, employers will wonder why the second half of the summer is empty. This is especially a no-brainer since you will have started your 2nd job by the time the fairs roll around.

I agree with all of this.

Yeah its cool. Makes an employer feel behind the curve. I had a fed app ct internship I secured during my 1L summer for the fall of 2L year I listed on my resume, and employers at OCI loved it even though I hadn't even started by the time I started interviewing. Your hiring is a proxy for your qualifications. List it.

I would probably include it, but be sure to use the appropriate language, like upcoming/anticipated/expected. It's good to show your success in the job/internship market. Good jobs beget more good jobs.

Put it on there and notate that it hasn't begun, but that it will begin. It shows employers what sort of jobs you're interested in by what you have done in the past, present, and what you've secured for the future.

Put it on there with the date it begins-ends. Don't add any job descriptions. The more experience, the better.
