Property is the class I "get" least this semester. I have a 100 page outline for my casebook I got from someone else, a case notes brief book, and my professor posts power points with the relevant material. Reading these dense assignments and taking notes on every rule variation is taking way too much time. In order to start ramping up for exams, should I give up on the casebook and just read Understanding Property and the brief book?

It really kind of depends....With some profs this might work, with others not so much. In the interest of caution, I would still read the assignments, but don't waste time trying to learn the material from the book itself. Your most valuable resource will be the power points. I would also ask your prof if they recommend any supps and if they do get them immediately. If they don't, be weary of relying too heavily on one for anything other than black letter law (which is what they are normally used for anyways).

Do you have previous exams from your professors you can look at? If the exams are issue/thematic based, I'd just skim the cases and actually focus on learning the material.

OTOH half of my Property exam focused specifically on 1 case. If your prof has a tendency to do this, then I'd keep reading the casebook
