Every factual assertion must be supported by the record and must, therefore, be cited to the record wherever it occurs in the brief (appellate or otherwise). Generally, this means citing to a document or pleading - in my jurisdiction call the "transcript" and is cited (T page no.) or the verbatim transcript of the proceedings of the court, in mu jurisdiction call the "bill of exceptions" and it cited by line and page (page:line-line).

EVERY. SINGLE. TIME.

If this is for legal writing class ask your professor lol. For our brief we only had to cite the facts to the record in our statement of facts but not in our argument section.
