The fuck kind of question is that? You think a judge in the 8th circuit cares more about what a three judge panel in the 9th circuit said than what a three judge panel in the 10th circuit said? I doubt it. You could arguably say that the DC circuit might be more revered generally, but not enough to sway a different circuit court one way or another.

I think there are judges that are seen as more authoritative. But I don't know if circuits themselves carry any inherent weight.

For corporate / bankruptcy law, 2d Circuit or 3d Circuit. At least that's been my experience as a junior associate in biglaw, drafting motions and such.

I did once sit in on an assemblage of judges where one of the judges made an offhand comment about never paying attention "to a circuit divisible by 3." But generally I don't think any one circuit trumps. For one thing, the only circuit that really matters is the one that governs your case. (Unless you're in state court, then screw 'em all.)

Inversely, I get the impression that the 9th Circuit is derided more than the others, but it could just be the observer-expectancy effect.

I heard that Easterbrook once said something along the lines of believing he'd save time on making the correct decision by looking at what the 9th circuit had done and then doing the opposite.

7th Circuit is TCR.

9th is just weird. Id think of it as the most volatile. FEHA and ridiculous liberalism fucks up a lot of the l&e and shit for nationwide applicability, but the presence and needs of Hollywood and high tech sometimes makes it groundbreaking/revolutionary.

Also the answer to OP's question is the Federal Circuit. All matters it decides, at least.

This is probably pretty accurate. People have written law review articles about the most cited judges.

Is there anyone else? Kozinski is maybe a close second.

Posner isn't an asshole to his clerks so that would give him the edge even if they were equal in their reputations.
