Hi everyone,
I am a foreign attorney with civil law jurisdiction background, planning to take California Bar exam next year. Not very familiar with common law legal system, I have difficulty finding good study materials for the exam. Before going through full set exam materials such as Barbri Outlines or Kaplan multiple-choice questions, I need to gain deep knowledge in each subject matter. Therefore, I appreciate your advice on suggesting good comprehensive books or study guides for different subjects of the exam. Thanks

For the MBE part get Strategies & Tactics for the MBE by Walton and Emmanuel. The publisher is Aspen. This book is a few years old but a goldmine. It contains real MBE questions for old exams. The questions in this book are very similar to the questions you will see on the MBE. Kaplan and Barbri questions are not so similar, they are too long. The real MBE questions are short but tricky.

Thank you so much for your suggestion and helpful information. In addition to a useful test book, I need a comprehensive book in each major subject for substantive review. As I mentioned before, I am not very familiar with common law and California legal system. I will appreciate if you recommend some study materials in following subjects :
