Trying to not run afoul of academic integrity.

Doing a research paper / independent study. I found a document that provides helpful information. This document cites information from other sources (case law, other journals). My school is a bluebook school. Do I cite the original source of the material which I have not and will not read (footnoted in document I read) or the document which gave me the information, or both?

Cite only what you looked at. If possible get the original. You could cite to your source with a citing parenthetical to the original, but I wouldn't. Citing a source you haven't looked at is generally a no no.
