Re: Best Law dictionary and best case briefs?
Profs tell you not to use canned briefs and to use a paper dictionary. I want to use an online dictionary because it will facilitate faster lookup of concepts and use canned briefs to locate integral legal concepts before reading the case. Any suggestions?

Hell, OP will be looking between wiki, casebriefs.com, and invsipress by 3L yr. Hell, OP will probably be looking at lawnix by week one. But seriously gun-tastic 0L OP, enjoy summer.

Once you get access, use Blacks Dictionary in Westlaw so you can take advantaged of the KeyCite system. I am pretty sude I have not used a legal dictionary since 1L.BrooklynLaw16 wrote:1L here looking for the best online legal dictionary and the best source of case briefs.

whatever you can find on google. profs will probably recommend actually reading the cases and briefing them yourself. LOL no. it's all part of a flame to make their chosen field of study seem rigorous and worthwhile.

My law school already sent out the first reading assignment- 300 pages, including 10 strict products liability cases. I'm starting now. Don't assume what you don't know.MrsPalsgraf wrote:You're not a 1L you're a 0L. Use the appropriate forum

I liked http://www.lawnix.com a lot, and these were helpful: http://marissabracke.com/law-school-outlines
Google will work fine for a dictionary. Black's is a waste of money.

Re: Best Law dictionary and best case briefs?
I had a hard copy of a law dictionary to start 1L, didn't use it once, and it turned out to NOT be the dictionary allowed for journal write-on. Use google and Black's on Westlaw for now, and later if you need to buy one, you won't have wasted money on the wrong one.

^This website has briefs keyed to many major textbooks, but the short, concise rule statements included in Wikipedia summaries are better
http://www.invispress.com/law/index.html
^This guy also wrote some pretty good case briefs

Seconded. If you need to read it, google it. If you need to cite it, borrow it. If you need to buy it...don't.kalvano wrote:I liked http://www.lawnix.com a lot, and these were helpful: http://marissabracke.com/law-school-outlines

Re: Best Law dictionary and best case briefs?
LOL. Yea ok I'm sure you have a 300 page reading assignment on strict liabilty in a month before classes start. That's totally logical.ManOfTheMinute wrote:Oh snapBrooklynLaw16 wrote:My law school already sent out the first reading assignment- 300 pages, including 10 strict products liability cases. Re: Best Law dictionary and best case briefs?
Law dictionaries are of really limited usefulness. I don't think I ever cracked one after the early portion of my first semester. So definitely don't buy one, especially considering you can look up all the terms you need to look up on the web.
