Has anyone done any of the three they have on the website? If so, how'd you do? I got 81/100 on one of them, which would be great on the real MBE, but I think these are easier than the current MBE questions.

And what exactly would be their incentive for putting out an unrepresentative set of questions that are too easy?

Are you talking about 'released' questions they give to the public or the practice exams they sell? I've heard twice now that the practice exams are supposed to be representative.

I have trouble believing it though, because they felt a lot like BarBri MPQ2 sets 1-7 in ease.

Same question as post above me. Are we talking the released Q's that they submit to BarBri, and release generally (i.e. very old questions)? Or the question sets from recent tests they NCBE themselves say are supposed to be relatively representative?

From NCBE regarding those 100 Q tests they sell for $50 a piece:


"The material presented in the MBE-OPE is very similar in content representation and format to the Multistate Bar Examination (MBE), and is intended to familiarize candidates with MBE-style questions"

Even if they are easier, the scaled score should stay the same. That is why they scale it.

1) Even though the questions are "easier," the tighter conversation from raw to scaled score in your score report represents that. Therefore, you should rely on your scaled score performance on the NCBE exams.

2) I'm skeptical of people who say the Qs are genuinely easier. First, things seem a lot more difficult than they are on test day. Second, people actually tend to score fairly closely to their NCBE score on the real thing.

Anyone wanna report their raw and scaled scores for the 2nd and 3rd test. I have copies but no conversion chart. I wanna backwards engineer one.

Test 3: 87/100 - 176 scaled

Exactly, that's why I'm concerned that these are easy questions that they released. It might not be representative of the mix of difficulty tested recently.

If you got an actual 162 raw on the test (81*2), your scaled score would be a lot higher. That's the meaning of the scaled score. You *will* get a more wrong on the actual test, but I wouldn't be surprised if your scaled score wasn't significantly off.

Test 2 - 79/100 162
Test 3 - 88/100 178

Real exam only counts 190 questions. The scaled score accounts for that.

You don't just multiply by 2 since your raw is only out of the 190 that count. To see how the scaling works, multiply your raw by 1.9. That would be the raw they use to scale you up.

Add in 12.1, and you get 166

Have you done an NCBEX test? In the score print out you receive at the end of the test, they say that your score is scaled based on what other students did on those questions. That sounds like it would be a pretty accurate prediction to me.

And it's very plausible that TLSers would all be seeing very high scaled scores. Just look at how many 170+ LSATs there are walking around this site when the truth is only 2% of takers score that high. I would expect them to be scoring in the top 1% on the MBE as well.

Yeah, but I like to hedge my bets more than anything else. I'd rather be comfortable with "somewhere in the middle" and study more to build that cushion rather than take shit for granted.

I'm taking Themis though, so had seen many of the questions before. I got one or two intentionally wrong to account for that (and probably lots others right that I shouldn't have), but I still don't feel comfortable putting faith in it.

Oh I'm right there with you on that. Especially since you never know what kind of nerves are going to hit on test day.

Yea I don't think I'll bohter if themis used them anyway.
