Estimating rank with just the median?

Hi everyone. My school doesn't publish ranks. The 1L median is 3.3. How can I estimate my rank?

Administrators at our school seem to think that estimating a student's rank is easy, but I really don't understand how to do this. Especially because I've noticed that, for example, 3.2 can be top 30% for some schools and top 60% for others.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

That's not gonna work. You need another data point

Yeah, that's what I figured. Well, if anyone can think of something else I can look at, that'd be great.

How about this: is it ever safe to assume that top 1% is about 4.2-4.3?

Why don't you call the registrar's office and ask? Some schools will give the cutoff information for latin honors via phone even if they do not publish the information.

It is not safe to assume that top 1% requires 4.2-4.3. It is safe to assume, however, that a 4.2-4.3 is top 1%. However, I doubt that is the case.
