Anyone trying to figure out how to beat this new "super hard" test without PLI?

I need to get back to studying for the patent bar exam. 1L got in the way

Can you pretty much schedule the exam for whenever you want (because it's one of the commercial testing centers, right?), or is it like the LSAT, only offered a few times a year?

Ideally we can come up with a reasonable schedule, find appropriate materials, and keep each other honest...

I'm thinking that 3 hrs a day for a month and then like 2 cram days before testing seems to make sense but I'm not sure

In terms of materials so far I've looked at:
1. Wysebridge.com. I think these bros just took the free shit on mypatentbar.com and made it more organized. This is still free. They have a pay option that I'm not too interested in. They have old questions and seem to have some "new" ones too (not sure how new new is). Pretty sure this makes mypatentbar.com
2. Bullseye. This was cheap and it's got a decent outline of the mpep, some tips, the same old questions as wysebridge. I'm gonna compare the two resources to see if wysebridge makes bullseye pointless.
3. http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/145482244 ... -1&pi=SL75. Patent law student treatise. This was expensive...I bought it for my IP survey course and will use it again for patent law next semester...the last 2 chapters are AIA and mechanics type stuff that I figure will be invaluable for having updated materials to study from for this new "hardest patent bar exam ever!!l" thing that PLI is trying to capitalize on.
4. mpep. I guess it's dumb to read this directly so we'll need to figure out a way to cover it.
5. There are books on amazon that are cheap like a 30 buck "ultimate patent bar study guide" that claims to have been updated for 2013. I have no idea how reliable that is but the idea of a comprehensive book is appealing to me...

Other recommendations/links/thoughts appreciated

The fact that the old exam had tons of repeat questions but now we'll be facing ones we haven't seen before isn't that concerning in the sense that in most exams I take, I don't get the benefit of old q's. managing pre-aia/post aia differences is not a big deal--it's expected in my ip survey course and it hasn't been hard to keep the shit straight

Just a few thoughts, from someone that has already taken and passed.

1) 3 hours a day probably doesn't cut the mustard. You can only take a half a test in a dedicated 3 hour session and that doesn't leave time for reviewing answers or even grading. (I probably spend 150-200 hours pre AIA, I knew I didn't want to take it over though, it was well worth it to know I would see that green screen at the end of the test)

2) good luck with the black box that is the new test.

3) be VERY careful with online stuff from places like mypatentbar.com - there is LOTS of good info out there, but there is also a LOT of OLD info out there. Probably one of the strongest reasons for learning the material as opposed to trying to memorize answers. If you can get good at accessing the MPEP and supplements, and really know what is where. You shouldn't have a problem with the test.

That said, I'd still pay for a real class, but thats just me.

re: old questions - agree. No big loss there. I took it pre AIA and probably only had 10-15 that I would qualify as "repeats" and still took the same approach to all of the others. If you learn the materials, you'll be fine. New material or otherwise. Its about learning where the answer is.

As for the ipwd link - know that Gene is one of the PLI professors. He does have an interest in making people want to take the test. That said, as mentioned above, I would still recommend people take the course instead of self studying. I do know that PLI has all their supplements updated and had access to a lot of materials before the change and continues to get feedback as changes roll out.

Not the free shit. Wysebridge's pro course is ($349) And so is patenteducationseries.com (500). More i look at it the more likely it seems like I'm gonna have to pay for something.

Did anyone ever find an affordable patent bar study program to go with? I saw PLI is over 2 grand. No way I could spend that much. I heard mypatentbar was helpful but I'm not sure how to use it to study. Is this Wysebridge legit? Bullseye worth it?

If we were to buy a full PLI patent bar prep set of materials (everything included in the 2013 home study course), including the "patware" software from a random person that happens to be selling it instead of buying directly from PLI, would there be any of the course's resources that we'd be unable to use (I.E., would the patware software or anything else not work because I wouldn't have an account or login information through PLI)?

I found someone on my campus that bought the course for home study but ended up deciding not even to go into law so I'm considering purchasing the stuff from him and trying to get it done in two months this summer before lawl skool starts.

Hey guys,

just wanted to chime in. I'm taking the test 9-23-2013, in 8 days. freeggin nervous. took a diagnostic today got a 52/100. Need to bump to 73 obviously.

I'll let you guys know how it went and what I am going to do to prepare this coming week. But basically as of now, I loosely studied in july. like 1-3 hours a day, 1-4 days a week. Full time study in August. And lockdown mode study in the past week. I just finished the PLI course/lectures.
Gonna reread all the materials. rememorize PLI's notes on 600,700,1800,2100. PCT seems to be a big one on the test. Wish me luck, I won't be on forums much starting monday until the test.

BTW. I also have Bullseye ($30 dollars seemed negligible compared to PLI's 1800 dolla) and I find it to be useless with the exception of the 3 quick charts(102e, appeal, pct). The study guide is basically teaching you to memorize the table of contents for every section, and subchapter. no ksr either. In my opinion, Bullseye is for a patent filing specialist/paralegal who decided to become an attorney and wants the uspto registration. They already know how to read patent law jargon

Any updates? I know there is a NDA at the beginning of the exam so we don't need you to jeopardize your hardwork, but even just some overall theme of what might be useful in quickly improving your score?

Hope it worked out man. I'm just a few weeks away myself.

Well, i failed. Only actually put in about a long weekend's time into it...but not sure where to begin with studying again. Felt like I was able to lookup a bunch of shit and was surprised by my 60. Guess I'll just need to spend some more time with the material

How much was new AIA stuff? I tried to squeeze in a test a while ago before any of the new material got into the test and ~2 weeks wasn't enough. I'm just curious if I still need to restudy First-to-Invent era or if I can just buckle down with the new material.
