Whats your total COA/debt going to be? Do you think you can improve this semester (are you studying more/better/etc.)?

To explicate a bit, what would a reasonable outcome be for you grades wise be at the end of the year? How much are you spending to keep on gambling?
I don't think it's time to give up yet, but I think it's fair to consider under what circumstances you should give up. (That's probably true for nearly everyone.)

Provide more info. Are you a Texas resident with that super-low state tuition bill or from elsewhere? Scholarship? Are you trying to stay in Texas?
Do you want biglaw? PI? Do you like the idea of being a lawyer? Is your father a partner at Vinson and Elkins/aka do you have connections?
Oh yeah, and make better grades. Figure what you did wrong last time, and do not do it.

If he was bottom quarter, unless he gets top 10% grades, he will still not be in a good place.

See what grades you get, do OCI, then think really hard about how badly you want to be a lawyer.
Do you have any alternative career prospects? Have you worked before or something along those lines?

You're being self destructive brah. Don't stress on this till post finals. What good does it do now? Stop procrastinating, and if you are gonna procrastinate watch basketball. Analyze in June.

Pray. Meanwhile figure out an innovative and better study method. You're obviously smart enough to do well (intelligense wise you're pretty similar to your peers, prob have a good work ethic, etc.). You really need to refocus and change your approach. Pm me if you want specific advice.

UT 2L/3L here. First semester wasn't too kind to me either, but I rebounded and landed a sweet paid job. All I can say is hang in there and bust your buns off. Control what is ahead of you right now- finals. Don't doubt your capabilities based off of your past performance. Just think of your upcoming finals as a clear slate.
As for long term plans, worry about those during the summer. You are obviously a very capable networker to be able to get a job in the AG's office even though you say you didn't merit one. (Which I doubt. They must obviously think you are capable.) Play off of this strength and shake as many hands and kiss as many asses you meet this summer. Lets face it, many places outside of biglaw, especially in Texas, make decisions based off of personal relationships/fit within the office.
But for now, just focus on finals. Good luck and hook'em! Feel free to send me a PM if you would like.
