After endless rejection letters and way too many “you got mail ― sorry” dings, I had just taken my first bite of a late afternoon meal at a local restaurant when my phone lit up. 20 minutes later I returned to my table, steak was ice cold but I didn’t care. We then went to the bar and the rest of the night was celebratory. I doubt if I will ever forget that moment.

Where were you (and who were you with) when your first offer came?

This past Monday, 9 AM, doing homework! And it will be the firm that I will accept. But I knew it was coming because I got an unusually positive response from my interviewer.

I got my offer walking out of the callback.

It never came.

Driving home from the airport at midnight after a different callback. Read the email and almost swerved off the road.

Handshake and pat on the back + offer as I was leaving the interview. We talked about football and UNC/VT for most of the interview.

A friend said she was twenty minutes into a two-hour car ride back from a CB that she thought was a bust when she received her offer. She zealously accepted the very next day. For whatever reason no one I spoke with accepted on the spot when the offer was made over the phone.

I'm pretty sure I was in editing hell and saw I had a missed call. I called back, first offer.

Perhaps 5 minutes on the call (with the hiring partner) and then I excitedly phoned a couple friends. It seemed sureal. I can say for sure that the meal was ice cold!

When I was leaving to get lunch with associates during the CB, the Recruiting Director told me that one of the partners wanted to speak to me when we got back from lunch.

Went to the partner's office after lunch and he handed me the offer letter on the spot. Nearly tripped over my own feet walking back out to the elevator.
