Just seeing what new 1L's on macs have decided to use for note taking this coming year.
If someone feels strongly about their software, please feel free to advocate for it.

Tried Circus Ponies' Notebook, it's not that great. So I got virtualization software so I can run OneNote.

Using the Word Notebook view as well. Seems to give me everything I need, which isn't much. I only wish I could get rid of the title part at the top to give myself a little more room. Otherwise it works.

Pen and paper. Try explaining to the partner during your SA that you need to bring your laptop into a client interview because you're used to taking notes on GrowlyNotes.

In fact, I did that. Most of the associates I worked with were doing that too.

I used growly notes last year, and I liked it ok, except that I somehow overwrote all my notes from first semester. I still don't know how I did it, and it definitely wasn't on purpose, but they're all gone. Wouldn't matter except I have advanced K's from the same prof I had first semester of 1L K's, and the notes would've been useful on some things.
I'm using Microsoft word notebook now, if growly notes did anything that ms word notebook doesn't do...whatever it was I didn't use it.

I use Evernote. I was a huge OneNote user throughout UG and I love Evernote. It's nice to be able to access notes on my phone if I need them too. The free account is more that adequate, and the organization features are similar to OneNote, especially once you get into merging and tags.

Word in notebook view. Works better than I thought it would. I tried Growly Notes for a while but found it less intuitive and it didn't give me enough confidence that the software wouldn't crash on me mid-semester, so I'm sticking with Word.
If you use Dropbox or other cloud software you'll be able to access the Word file from your phone and/or tablet.

After reading threads in previous years, I thought this would be a much bigger deal.

I just switched over to mac, and Evernote is really disappointing compared to OneNote.

I ran a virtual machine for a year and a half to use OneNote, and then just got tired of that and use Word.

I gotta say, I tried Growly and Word's notebook layout on Mac and got tired of it. I've reverted to simple Word layout. With the right tools (TOC, headings, fonts, index), it's easy to navigate and search. I have one Word file per class and insert headings, boxes, tables etc. as I go. All in one place. Works better for me.

After virtualization turned out to be a bitch, I found Scrivener. It's pretty awesome. The number of features is mind boggling.

It does cost money, but I think it's worth it.
