What do they do wrong?

I know this has been discussed so many times on many different threads and posts and I've seen most of them. My question is, what goes wrong for people who end up at the bottom, or below median of their class? I'm a 1L in my third week of class and it's like - most people know that they need to do the reading, everyone comes to class, takes important notes... what happens? Is it just a few points lost on the exam? It seems so trivial that after so much hard work, a few points lost on an exam puts you at the bottom... This is all according to my naive 1L mind. What do they do wrong? Do they burn out?? Everyone here seems relatively intelligent and it makes me wonder...

Go to a school where you're not fucked below median.

Even if your top third, you still will prob strikeout at American

A lot of people work really hard and end up below median. Hell, people work really hard and end up bottom quarter. Enjoy being life pwnd.

You don't have to do anything "wrong" to end up below median on a mandatory curve.

Yes, you must understand the effect of the mandatory curve. People don't have to do anything wrong. I said this in another thread but really look around the classroom and realize that only a handful of people get As. Half of them will be below median. This can just come down to a few points in an exam. You just have to do your best and see what happens.

OP: just curious, why did you decide to ignore everyone's advice about retaking and reapplying? I think you have made a mistake. But I hope I'm wrong and it all works out the way you hope it will.

Some people are naturally good at law school and others are not. Generally, you only get one exam to prove to the professor that you thoroughly know the law. Students get sick, stressed, depressed, and dumped during finals. Some people miss entire issues during the exam.
