I am working on a plan on how to best study for the MPRE. I have heard it isn't too difficult of a test, but I wanted to see who on here has taken it and how much time it is worth preparing for. I'm taking it Aug. 10.

I know a lot of bar prep companies offer free MPRE study guides; is it enough to just go through one of those?

Also taking it Aug. 10. Every attorney I've mentioned it to this summer has said "oh you don't have to worry about that, lol"

I'm probably just going to watch the BarBri review video the day before. And possibly review my ethics class notes.

That's what I heard as well; I'm thinking just review off and on that week and that should be good. Just wanted to see here what kind of time others had put into the test.

Put in about a week of off and on studying and was able to get a 111. If you want to be sure to just take it one I would put in about a weeks worth of studying. Anything more is probably overkill.

I took it last year and also passed w/ a score in the high 110s (if I remember correctly). I would also put in a week's time. People I've talked to (incl. myself) think that those who say they studied the day before are lying. I personally thought the BARBRI free lecture/outline was useless. I sat down, reviewed all the rules myself and ended up doing fine.

I prepped for like 2 hours. The test is completely guessable.

A day or two can be enough for a lot of people if you're just hoping to squeak by. More is probably not a bad idea though.

Reading the 170-page Bar-Bri outline is a waste of time and doesn't actually prepare you. The condensed outline that comes with it is all you really need, assuming you've already taken professional responsibility. Read that, then do a bunch of practice questions.

I've heard good things about Kaplan's MPRE video lecture/outline thing, but I don't have firsthand knowledge of it.

Watched Kaplan's video. It's solid. And did 2 practice tests. Scored a 106. Def. wouldn't go overboard preparing. Know the conflict rules and you'll be fine.

I just watched the BarBri video and took notes, studied over my notes 2 or 3 times, and passed with a 100 something. 2 or 3 days of prep is more than enough. Probably spent a total of 8-12 hours studying.

you need 1.5 solid days of studying. that's it. this is what i did (including the BarBri lecture, reading over the notes from it once after the lecture, and doing about 75 practice questions AND reviewing carefully the ones i got wrong to understand why i got them wrong) and i ended up with a 111

Thanks for the help. Seems like just don't worry about it until the week before and we should be OK.

How much time if you haven't taken PR?

i hadn't taken PR. studied for 2 days, probably 5-6 hours a day and passed by a big margin (i think 110 or so).

I took it without taking PR prior. I would say 1 or two weekends (2-4 days) is about right. People should not be overly lax in preparing for it though. I know plenty of folks who have failed. Most of the questions are fairly easy to figure out, but there are some curveballs.

I think the best thing to do is watch the video and study using an MPRE book by BarBri. Take some practice tests and read the answers in the back of the book.

Yes it is not all that hard of a test, but you don't want to be the person who has to take it twice. Put the time in to study and then you don't have to worry about it.

Also pass/fail of MPRE is not any indicator of pass/fail on the bar.

Is there a time period during which the MPRE is good for? Like the LSAT is good for 5 years; is there such a period for the MPRE?

Depends on states. The MPRE never expires in Cal.

Haven't had PR myself (just studying the ABA Model Rules). I took the timed online practice MPRE and got 45/60 first try. Do you think 45/60 is enough to pass the MPRE?

I watched Barbri's free four hour lecture. Then I took one practice test. Total study time, including the four hour lecture: six hours. And I scored a 103, which was fine considering I just needed an 85. Don't stress about it - studying for one or two days max should be plenty.

At least they let you go when you're done and don't make you stay the whole time.

The proctor looked at me like I was from another planet when I was done in about 50 minutes. It's 60 questions and two answers are immediately out. It shouldn't take that long.

The BarBri lecture is better, and also available free of charge.
