Bulking up the resume

Post by MissLucky » Thu May 17, 2012 4:22 pm

At a T10, have done nothing all of 1L and totally missed the boat on Journals. Advice on how to bulk up my resume for employers? One grade from 1st semester 1L SUNK me and left me below median (still haven't gotten this semester's grades back but am not expecting much).

I've been moping around super depressed unsure of how to strengthen my creds...

Thanks a lot

Moot court.

Or volunteer work for a local attorney.

Journals are overrated.

Except firms like em more than moot, generally.

OP, RA for a prof or extern somewhere during the year or something. Or do moot. Stay busy.

For big lawl it's probably too late. Hope you get some good grades.

Nah from what I saw at OCI, firms def. like journal more than moot. They have no clue whether you're gonna publish or not.

This must be a varies by school thing because at my OCI journals did way better than moot court. And nobody knows who will get published so that was a nonfactor

I've never heard of a firm liking moot over a journal, published or not.

thanks a lot for this advice - very helpful. how should I go about trying to be a RA for a prof? should it be a prof I had during 1L (i loved con law, but still haven't gotten that grade back). or should I just blind e-mail profs with whom I share interests and see if they're looking for help?

Apply for small firms for part time work during the year. Gets you firm experience and some money in your pocket.

Judges, if unpaid, are willing to take interns left and right in my experience.

Moot/Mock is always good too.

Why not try both methods? No one will think it's weird.
