Selling1L Books

I am trying to decide if I am going to sell my 1L books. At this point, I am leaning toward selling the casebooks, since they appear to be of limited usefulness, but keeping the hornbooks and some of the supplements (like my copy of the UCC, for example) for general reference. Thoughts?

Also, where is the best place to sell used books? The campus bookstore? Ebay? Amazon market? Somewhere else?

Sell them all. You won't need them again.

Amazon has a pretty killer book buyback system.

So I've heard, but can I use it if I didn't buy them from Amazon in the first place?

I'm holding onto them for now and looking to sell them to incoming 1L's next semester. I won't have to worry about shipping costs or getting shit rates from the bookstore. And considering that I bought mine at a steep discount at Barnes and Noble, I can transfer that discount by selling the books to incoming 1Ls for basically 40 bucks a piece. Win-win.

I agree with you on the point of holding onto the hornbooks. I am just in case I need to quickly reference the material.

I've sold all my law books on amazon. They take a commission but its so convenient. TPlus as long as you ship media mail you always get a dollar or two extra from the shipping cost

Yes, you can use it for any book. Input the ISBN and it will tell you much they will give you. If you take it, you'll get a UPS shipping label...drop it off a mailing store and in a week or so, they'll deposit money in your Amazon account.

I just sell mine back to the school. Usually get about 50 bucks. I don't have to deal with any of the other nonsense. Sometimes they won't give me as much if the course is not being offered the following semester. In that case I just hold on to it until the next semester ends.

Yeah definitely resell them. Anything that you could need a 1L book for you can find on Westlaw or Am Jur.

Realistically how much are you guys getting for each book? I know in UG I'd sell back a semester's worth of books and get like $15 in store credit. If it's a similar tale, it may just be worthwhile for me to keep them and make for a pretty looking bookshelf.

The Amazon buy back program gives you pretty solid money. It's not cash, sadly, but Amazon credit is damn near cash given everything available on Amazon.
