Why would this even be a question? It's not that hard. I'd assume there is less but surely there would still be some at some point. Particularly if a deal you worked on goes bad and goes to trial. At a few of the firms I interviewed with, they mentioned that when a deal goes bad and is assigned to the litigation section their associates are also involved in order to help the litigation section understand the transactions and the governing law.

Good luck being a lawyer.

This. I'd imagine due diligence or typo-hunting in a merger agreement is at least as miserable as bluebooking.

Bluebooking is not that bad once you learn it. It is kind of second nature at this point (I think most 1Ls will agree).

I think this really happens after the writing competition.

It really happens when you get on a journal. Fortunately, bluebooking in practice isn't anywhere in the realm of periodical of journal bluebooking.

Bluebooking might come up if you had to write a memorandum on a certain legal aspect of a merger agreement or public company filing.

It's not something that would come up often, though.

I dunno, after I did the competition I pretty much knew the Bluebook inside and out. I haven't had any trouble at all cite checking for my journal.
