i was at this thing - i was very impressed by campos. i feel like he's kind of a hack much of the time, but i thought the moment where the finance dean needed to get up and say "it's not our fault nobody follows our tiny inconsequential steps, oh and btdubs it's all US news's fault" was pretty telling.

Don't have time to watch all of these now, but thanks for posting. Campos is clearly a better speaker than he is a blogger.

For most TLS readers, this one hour and five minutes covers very basic topics. Highlights include that 11% of Virginia's graduating class was hired for temp positions by the law school (usually Georgetown takes it on the chin for this practice), GWU's employment numbers are astonishingly poor, & that both discussion leaders miss the simple point that making student loans once again dischargeable in bankruptcy should solve the problems of rising law school tuitions & oversupply of new graduates. Disappointing that one moderator suggested that Stanford lead the way on fighting USNews law school rankings. Seems naive to expect that one of the three primary beneficiarcies out of roughly 200 law schools would fight the rankings system that bestows prominence on itself. In sum, if you read TLS on a regular basis, you know & understand more than was presented in this one hour & five minute presentation.

Nevertheless, discussion regarding law school professors' exhorbitant salaries was interesting. Law profs are the second highest paid profession by the hour according to one study discussed (the highest paid profession/occupation was unknown to the panel, but I suspect that it involves running your own country).

In my experience, asking law school profs to solve real world problems is about as helpful as stressing your bluebook dexterity to a corporate law department. Spend one hour with an experienced judge if you want to address real world concerns.
