Is there a hierarchy of best internships? For example is a State's AG's office internship better than a District Ct internship? Kind of lost in this whole process, any help would be much appreciated!

I'm curious about this myself...

I'm a 1L and have been offered an internship with a solo practitioner. My concern is whether interning for a solo practitioner is viewed favorably for future internships and employment.

Personally, I think I'd enjoy the experience. He has made clear that I would be very involved in every aspect of handling cases including accompanying him to court. Plus, I like the idea of getting my feet wet in a small firm rather than getting lost in a larger one.

For context, the firm is involved in criminal defense. I'd like to work for the PD at graduation to gain trial experience and perhaps eventually open my own practice. Internship would be unpaid, but money is not a concern for me at this time.

Doesn't matter what you do 1L summer. Just do something legal and that will get you solid experience. If you have an option of something paid then do that.

1L summer does not matter (although biglaw would be solid), just work somewhere in the legal field. Come up with interesting things to say about it for your 2L OCI interviews.

What the above posts said.

1L summer can also be used to express a commitment to a job market if you're looking to land their after school. Definitely one of the most helpful things you can do 1L summer if you're trying for a secondary market or a market that emphasizes ties.
