OneNote Law School Templates Compilation+Poll Forum

Thought it'd be nice to have a single thread where any willing OneNote stars could post download links to their custom templates (lecture notes, case briefs, etc.) for those of us who aren't as skilled with computers.

Also added a poll on whether or not people feel like OneNote is the best note-taking software for law school.

It's awesome. I attribute my first semester grades largely to OneNote, no joke. OneNote is the single most compelling reason that law students should use PCs instead of Macs (or at least have a virtual Windows machine on their Mac).

I voted for onenote. I use growly notes which is the makeshift version of onenote for mac, but it's free lol (probs cuz a rational person wouldn't pay for this shit)

This is pretty much the reason I run bootcamp on my mac.

Well that and I think OSLion is an inferior product.

Here is what my OneNote looks like for most classes.









I like one notebook for each class, main topics up top, and then sub-pages for each smaller topic within a main topic.

I'm pretty much the same, although I'm big on hyperlinking:



For statutory classes in which you can use any electronic materials on your laptop on the exam, the hyperlinking ability is incredible. It takes a bit of time to compile the codes, but its completely worth the time savings on the exam. For example, if I click the first hyperlink in the last photo I see this:



So useful on exams.

Our laptops are locked down with Examsoft for exams, so I don't use much linking.

I love OneNote and actually switched from a MacBook back to a PC for law school specifically for OneNote

Also - SO jealous of you guys that have open computer access during exams. I do the same thing with the linking but I can't use it during exams

This is great, thanks a lot for posting! Is there any way that you (all) can post on the thread your actual custom page format as a downloadable file? I noticed they have a couple "law" templates available through Microsoft, but the selection is limited, rather weak compared to the screen shots posted above.

*I don't mean to sound too lazy, useless, but I just switched after 6 years on a Mac back to PC, and I think Apple dumb-ed down my computer aptitude with its simplicity. That said, it seems like there's a whole lot more you can do using Outlook, OneNote, so I'll gladly suffer the learning curve if it helps improve efficiency, performance. Any help, though, is again very much appreciated.

Not sure I totally understand-I don't use a 'template' or anything that could be uploaded. Use it for a semester and you'll learn it as you go along. To link, I right click a paragraph and select "Copy Link to Paragraph," then go to where I want the link to that paragraph to be, select the text, and press Ctrl-K. Then Ctrl-V and hit enter and its linked. Takes about half a second to do.

Yeah, I'm not using a template. Just open a new notebook, title it, and then start making pages within it. No templates needed. OneNote is incredibly self-explanatory. All you need to know is in the "Guide to OneNote" that comes pre-loaded as a notebook.

Just bought OneNote 2010 using an home use copy associated with my workplace's licence and it didn't come with a Guide to One Note, is there anything in it I can't get from Youtube tutorials of it?

I have never used OneNote before and am mauling over getting my hands on it, but I just wanted to know: what would the difference in value be between Google Docs vs OneNote?

Google Docs and OneNote are completely different things. Look at the screenshots above. OneNote is specifically designed as free-form note taking software.

OneNote is amazing. It takes about 5-10 minutes to figure it out. I can't imagine law school without it.

I mean it's nice, but it's hardly necessary and I would be fine without it. I definitely didn't find it helpful on exams (granted I barely touched my outlines on exams).

What's the difference between growly and onenote? Any drawbacks to being a Mac user?
