Has anyone taken the patent bar and know of a good prep program? I've heard good things about PLI but I'd rather not drop $2000. Thanks

I just started PLI - got it used on ebay for very cheap. It contains the supplemental CD that addresses the new changes to the exam. I've only watched a few hours, but so far so good.

PLi is great. But be sure to kill the old 2000-2003 exams, as a lot of questions come from them.

A quick google search for 'patent bar prep' brings up a host of materials for the USPTO exam. I've seen PLI course materials used for around $400. Does anyone have experience with other test prep materials?

The best test prep - I think - is to do the old exams, and truly understand why the answer is what it is. The 2000-2003 exams have a vast amount of questions that are repeated. Know those cold, and you have 30% of the test. Become an accurate searcher of the MPEP, and you have another 10-20% just off keyword searches and knowing where to look. That leaves 20% that you need to account for.

That said, I had never taken a patent course and had no knowledge of patent law before I bought PLI. While John White could be really dry, it's a great course and gets you some really good fundamental knowledge of patent law.

I'd recommend against Patbar. The books I got were just excerpts from the MPEP, and didn't even cover the practice questions completely. The CDs were just the guy who runs the business reading the MPEP aloud, straight from the books.

Just remember that the patent bar will now (or very soon) test on the America Invents Act. I'm not sure if the MPEP has incorporated any of those changes yet or if any of the prep courses cover the updated material. I seriously screwed up by pushing off studying for PTO registration exam, bar exam, and MPRE until this semester (my last one)....
