Can you impeach the character of a character witness with another character witness?

i.e. P calls principal witness to testify. D calls character witness #1 to testify about principal witness' reputation for dishonesty. Can P call character witness #2 to testify about character witness #1's reputation for dishonesty?

Technically I guess it's possible, but at some point the judge could prevent it under FRE 403 and/or 611(a)
