Failing Out
Exactly how does one "fail out?"
Assume the curve is a 3.0... is this possible?
Also, if this happens, can you re-apply and start over, or are you doomed?
Just a hypotheticall..
thanks!

Re: Failing Out
Miss more than the maximum amount of unexcused absences per your syllabus or school handbook.
Make Fs on your exams.
Fail to turn in LRW assignments.

Re: Failing Out
I'm saying, if you actually try, to a reasonable extent...
Is it possible to fail out (meaning less than C's)?

I'm at Temple with a 3.0 curve.acrossthelake wrote:Depends entirely on the institution you attend and the curve.
Also, at that point, I'm not sure starting over and re-trying would be a good idea.
Need 2.0 to stay alive and keep scholly..

C- and D, etc. aren't part of the curve -- they're strictly discretionary.
In the handbook, they're listed as 0% - 5% of the curve. But in speaking with professors, they're discretionary and discouraged.

Re: Failing Out
If you study hard, it's extremely unlikely you'll fail out of law school. I've never heard of anyone failing out of my law school (lower T1). Some cutthroat TTTs give bad students the boot, but only because it's necessary for them to maintain accreditation. I highly doubt Temple flunks very many.

Re: Failing Out
At Penn, if you sit for the tests and write something, you'll get at least a C. The only way to fail out would be to not turn in assignments for LRW or papers for paper classes.

Hey, I said you'd get a C, not a job!TempleU555555 wrote:thanks for confidence boost!

Yeah. Failing out shouldn't be your concern. Not to be a dick, but I would be concerned about getting a job if you are at the bottom of your class at a T2.

No, I know, and I appreciate that advice. This semeseter, I've had some personal family problems that have really distracted me (that were completely unavoidable), and I've just been distracted in class, etc.
Next semester, I know I can buck up and do well. I'm just hoping to stay alive.
My (near full-ride) scholarship is contingent on maintaining a 2.0, that's what I'm really worried about.
I really kicked it into gear about 3 weeks ago, with 4 weeks left, so at least I've been in the game for 7 weeks, which is really almost half a semester, so I'm okay, just getting neurotic as exams arrive...
Anyway... thanks!

I've literally studied for 4 days for an exam and still gotten an A. Just study hard the next few weeks.

Op isn't dumb... Sounds like a 1L with anxiety. I had irrational fears at that time too.WSJ_Law wrote:what a TTT question/thread. OP seems dumb and is fucked if he tries or not

In this thread OP tries to get advice on how not to be the worst. That's the right attitude!

You shouldn't worry about failing. You should worry about passing near the bottom and being completely unemployable. I'm not sure if you're aware, but there's this economy thing going on.

Yeah, like 1/4 of my 1L class was put on "academic probation" after the first semester (It was like less a C or D average). At that school, if you continued to remain under academic probation, you could be asked to leave. But most were able to pull it up. I think somewhere around 5-10 dropped out of our 200 person first-year class. I'm not sure if they left voluntarily or were forced out.

Protip, this only happens at bad schools.3L Student wrote:Yeah, like 1/4 of my 1L class was put on "academic probation" after the first semester (It was like less a C or D average). What school are you at, if you don't mind disclosing (or maybe respond by PM?)
