Do TAs and RAs get paid at your law school?

Post by IAFG » Wed Nov 09, 2011 6:16 pm

If so, how much? Do TAs and RAs get the same rate? Can you get a tuition waiver?

Depends. For RAs, some pay and some give credit. No idea on the $ but not terribly much. From what I understand, you are paid by the prof out of their grant...not the school. We have no TAs that I know of.

Total compensation for RAs is $28/hr ($13/hr in salary + 15/hr tuition remission)
For TAs it's about $77/hr ($34/hr in salary + $43/hr tuition remission)

Is that per credit hour of the class they TA, or they get paid that per hour they work? So if a TA works 10 hours in a week, they'll get $340 in salary and $430 off their tuition?

What does RA stand for? Obviously not Resident Assistant.

It's per hour of work. There may be some cap on the hours per week, though; the handout lists two example stubs, one with 6hrs/wk and the other with 8hrs/wk.

It's hard for me to drum up a compelling case for why the school should give us a partial tuition waiver, but damn, it just seems like schools should.

+1

77/hr x hypothetical 40 hour week = $3080

never realized TAs made more than biglaw associates on an hourly basis (significantly more since this is using a standard 40 hour workweek)

This. My $8/hr with no tuition reduction is looking miserable right now.

Think about how much beer money that would have been for us this semester! Like 3.4 times what we got, plus they got money off of their tuition.

LOL at being "paid" $12/hour while forking over 60k/year in cost of attendence.

It's the same. We're not exactly taking the market by storm.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
