Does anyone know if it's possible to get WestLaw or WestLaw Next to show what I would be spending per click if this were at a firm billed on a per click basis. Just curious

Every firm has different contracts for costs, etc... so nope.

Firms have various billing plans. You can get billed by search or by time. Moreover, you get different rates based on the databases you subscribe to, the specific deal you get, and whether what you search for it within your contract. Law schools get comprehensive access to Westlaw. The only place you can get that kind of access without worrying about costs is when you work at a court.

Above poster is basically right. When you work as a summer associate (or intern/clerk/whatever) at a firm, ask them how they get charged for Westlaw. It will help you keep down costs.

Westlaw has a searchable database of billing rates. It's the "subscriber" database, and it will tell you the retail rate for every database on the service. As other posters noted, however, no one really pays the retail rate; your firm will have either negotiated a reduced rate or an all-inclusive plan based on past usage data.
