Re: 1L Summer Employment
Yesterday I thought I'd probably have to suck it up and spruce up cover letters and resumes for December 1st.
Tonight I realized I just don't have the time. I'm just going to have to do it over winter break and hope that I didn't make a disastrous decision, especially since I am hoping for a 1L SA position.

Mainly lol @ the panic. If you want a firm jerb at OCI, doesn't matter what you do, as long as you have something. And everyone gets something. But for some reason, every year the 1Ls forget this.
Now grades. That's a different story.

For those who have applied to firms, any suggestions on the "Subject" line?

Or qualifies for PI summer funding. Basically, I don't want to intern for a judge.thelaststraw05 wrote:That pays...Bildungsroman wrote:Well, I'd like to get a job this summer that I like.Grizz wrote:Mainly lol @ the panic. So, how much does the 12/1 date matter, really? I'd like to shoot off some apps to firms in my home market, but is it really gonna matter if I send them 12/2 or 12/3 instead of 12/1? In other words, is 12/1 a strict deadline for firms, or is there a little leeway?

Would it help you if I told you that firms aren't as asspie as you?beachbum wrote:So, how much does the 12/1 date matter, really? Re: 1L Summer Employment
I should qualify my statement with an explanation:Grizz wrote:Not really. If 2L hiring this year has shown us anything, it's that firms are VERY ties sensitive now.HBK wrote:That advice has gotten staler as the market has gotten worser.Antrim wrote:Do not apply to same firm/different city/state, right?
Ties are important. But, if you have good ties in more than one market, it's not that big a deal. But, if you have no ties you probably shouldn't apply to the same firms in different cities.

Re: 1L Summer Employment
Wut? I'm not sending out personal statements. I think some diversity hiring programs require stuff like that, but I've yet to see a single mention of a personal statement by either an employer or CSO. I think it would be cruel to subject an employer to the quality of personal statement I would write.Jessuf wrote:You're supposed to send out a personal statement now too? Isn't that what the cover letter is for? Seems redundant.

Way too concerned about grades to be concentrating on whether or not I send 1L SUMMER JOB stuff now or a week from now.

Re: 1L Summer Employment
I feel really pathetic, but it's almost impossible for me to care more about grades than jobs at this point. I know that 1L summer doesn't matter, but I have pretty much convinced myself that I will be lucky to hit median and I have to network my ass off from now until EIP. Somebody help! Give me hope and simultaneously put the fear of god in me about exams, please...Grizz wrote:TCRSandro wrote:Way too concerned about grades to be concentrating on whether or not I send 1L SUMMER JOB stuff now or a week from now.

Re: 1L Summer Employment
1L summer does not matter, as long as you get something. A lot of firms won't even consider you till you get your grades back anyway. I don't know anybody, anybody, who didn't have some summer job. There are lots of research assistant jobs, firm jobs, and judicial clerkships available. But, if you don't get good grades, it's going to be hard to find much of anything.piccolittle wrote:I feel really pathetic, but it's almost impossible for me to care more about grades than jobs at this point.
