Least favorite/predicted least favorite 1L class.

Post by Kabuo » Tue Aug 23, 2011 8:09 pm

Now that classes/orientations have started for most of us, I thought it'd be fun to see what everyone's least favorite class is so far. We had a mock crimlaw and mock civpro class today. I even thought the prof for civpro was more engaging, and I still almost fell asleep during it.

This is why I left the re-vote option up. I'm tentatively not dreading contracts, but I won't be surprised if it's worse.

About a week and a half into my 1L year, it's Civ Pro and it's not even close. The prof is engaging and all, but the material is just so boring.

All the first-year subjects can be interesting. Torts and Criminal Law are hard to screw up. Civ Pro, Property, and Contracts take a lot of work to make engaging, but everything can be interesting.

How did your prof manage to screw it up?

My civ pro dude was really harsh and whatnot. I just liked the subject matter. I think that's just a me thing.

Crim was sorta boring because without the investigation and adjudication part, it's basically like "how to charge a crime 101." Thoroughly divorced from IRL.

I made the same grade in both so it definitely was not the grade.

1) Property
2) Property
3) Property

Atleast for me, the least straight forward of any of my classes, including civ pro (I kind of really like civ pro?)

Torts. blech.

After talking to people and hearing everyone tell horror stories, I could have sworn that it would be Civ Pro. But I am way into Civ Pro. So far, the prof is great.

Kind of surprised CivPro has a plurality still. I was expecting LRW to run away with it. I get my first introduction to it tomorrow though, so I might be coming back to change my vote.

Love Contract and Torts... scared of Civ Pro and Property.

Lil experience with torts and contracts. Civ/crim sounds like it could be pretty monotonous.

I've only been in one week now, but torts is my favorite class by far, and civpro is definitely my least favorite.. nothing against the professor, the material is just not interesting at all.

WTF is wrong with you ignorant 1Ls. CivPro is the best class. LRW is always the worst.

To play along: Civ Pro only because the first few cases have been all "motion to dismiss granted because P's attorney filed suit in the wrong court." (A classmate even asked prof "who cares if it was in the wrong court, it's just a technicality.")

I think we 1Ls need to have a little more experience with these classes before we make this kind of determination. We haven't even scraped the tip of the iceberg.

Someone clearly doesn't appreciate the importance of the constitution.

I actually love Civ Pro (first week though, I'm sure that'll change), because the Professor is really really crystal clear in his explanations, and the casebook (his) is very good. I thought I would find Torts a lot more interesting. I like it, but not as much as I thought. My LRW guy is actually pretty cool, really interesting work experience and very approachable, although I'm sure the assignments will suck. Ask me next week...

 At least the [non-civ pro] fact patterns are interesting...

LRW is going to be terrible. 3 memo's due, the grade doesn't matter (that much), and the class is tiny. Good thing we only meet once a week.

Upon further reflection, this might be the most ignorant comment I've ever heard of a 1L making in class. If you are talking about 12(b)(1), which I think you are, federal jurisdiction changes literally everything about how you litigate.

Yeah I was gonna say, that's probably the stupidest thing I've ever heard. But then I thought maybe the "classmate" is really him, so I restrained myself.
