This is probably a really dumb question and sorry in advance, but how do you audio record something on a macbook pro - specifically, what is the best way to audio record a lecture on a macbook pro? (and then be able to insert that file into something like growlynotes?) thanks a ton!

You will never go back and listen to it. Especially with Socratic teaching.

well a few of my profs for 1L first semester are said to not really use the socratic method...so let's assume that audio recording may be of some help maybe a few times here and there - how can i go about doing that?

I am sorry, I don't have a mac. I will add I recorded every lecture first semester and stopped when I realized there is literally no chance I would have the time to go back and listen. 1L is too hectic.

I agree. Recording is a waste of time and most professors will not permit it anyway.

Curious as to why you believe professors wouldn't allow this? Have you had this experience?

I'm pretty sure it is not allowed at our school without express permission from the profs.

Audacity is a free program for recording - I haven't personally used it, but I've heard good things.

Don't waste your time. You'll never have time to listen to it again.

I think all of my professors specifically prohibited this in their syllabus.

+1. Check with every professor before recording her/his class.
Also, I recommend Quicktime Pro. It costs $30 to upgrade from the basic Quicktime that came with your mac, which sucks, but it's incredibly straightforward to make an instant audio recording or video recording using your isight camera. $30 is steep but I took the plunge over a year ago and in my opinion it gets enough use to justify the expense.
