ITT: We Discuss Note Writing

Do not mention note topics in this thread.
So, I'm about 1/3 of the way through my first editing assignment and decided to come up for air and think a little bit about my note. Our first deadline is September 2nd, by which point we are supposed to have selected our note topics. I haven't really figured out what I want to write about yet, since there's nothing in the law I'm interested in enough to write ~50 pages on.
How's this going for anyone else? Has anyone found any really useful resources for figuring out a topic or the process generally? You folks who've already done this, is there anything you'd recommend? Is the Volokh book worth reading?

Our journal only publishes 3 times a year, so only 2-3 cite checks the whole year. It's awesome.
Also, if you'd like help finding a topic, not sure if you know about this -

Scroll down and you can find opinion summaries organized by court or by legal topic.

Our first hard deadline for the note is mid-september, but in two weeks we should be able to talk to the note editor about something. I have no clue. Well, I know I'd like to something crim pro or civ pro related, but otherwise I have no idea. It seems impossible to find something that has not already been written about or won't be pre-empted.
By the way, 2-3 publications per year? I'm positive I hate you. We do 6.

We do 6 as well. It's the absolute suck.

Faculty are usually happy to help and will have suggestions for note topics.

We have five publications. I've been thinking about a couple of note topics, but I haven't nailed anything down. When is everyone's final draft due?

March-ish. I think either right before or right after spring break.

I'll take the lack of activity on this thread as evidence that everyone is struggling as much as I am to figure out a topic.

On a secondary, but the first draft of my comment is due 9/12. Have my topic and an outline, but there's too much shit going on right now that I haven't even thought about writing - like, you know, OCI and finding a job.

We're all jobless anyway. Might as well write a note.

So, having picked a case for a casenote is a pretty nice feeling. That seemed the biggest hurdle as I hate open-ended things like that.

My proposal is due Friday. Still really don't have a topic. Have a couple of ideas, but no topic. Gonna be an awesome couple of days.
