I stumbled across this link on the NM (where I want to practice) state bar website: --LinkRemoved--
Question: Should I join? Or is it pointless and just a waste of $25?

I joined and found that the newsletter they send out was very informative. Since you have West you don't need access to their search engine. However, they will have various books on state law that could be worth the expense. The one I used the most was called Elements of a Civil Cause of Action. It had forms and discussed all the major state civil cases. If you plan to stay in NM, join.

Join if you plan to practice in that state.

Wait and spend the $25 only after you have decided you are definitely going there. After 1L or 2L summer, I would say.

So what are the immediate and long-term benefits of joining? I know morris mentioned access to books...

mine gave me free access to all federal case law on casemaker, which came in handy for 1L and 2L summer assignments where cost was an issue.
