Where to buy books on the Internet?

I have seen lots of people talking about buying books off the internet. But there doesn't seem to be any advice regarding which sites to use. I have tried Amazon and the like but they are as expensive or more expensive than my Universities book store. Am I missing something? Can anyone recommend a different site? Or is my university just that reasonable?

You have to look carefully though. Make sure you only buy from reputable sellers. I've had a lot of luck getting textbooks that are essentially brand new but at 1/3 of the price.

borders sell good books but I heard they are liquidating so try the half.com instead

Just use eBay and research the seller to make sure they are reputable. Look for "Power Sellers" if you want to be safe and search for auctions or people who are likely not experienced users if you want to find a deal. Research each seller either way and you will be fine on eBay.

I comparison shopped on Amazon..Chegg..and my school's bookstore and bought or rented from whoever had the cheapest..every site doesn't have every book but I saved a lot of money compared to what I was told to budget for books..

It just depends. Usually Amazon is the best all around, especially if you click on the used link.

For casebooks I copy the table of contents of the updated editions... Then go purchase my $125 Contracts book for $1.... and look up any missing cases on Lexis. There's a guy who sits next to me who bought all the new recommended editions... God Bless Him... I wouldn't pay $200 for a Torts book that I got for $2 where the only difference is a case or two... and maybe a minute of embarrassment on a cold call.
I funded my first year of law school for under $100... including supplements, hornbooks, hookers, and blow.
