Top Law Schools

To any rising 3L or older:

I'm a rising 2L. Next year I have 16 credit scheduled, and am doing LR and Moot Ct. (though I get 3 credits total for doing those). I also plan on working at the firm I'm summering at 10-15 hours per week during the school year.

Legitimately worried I may be taking on too much. Anyone with experience doing something like this? Thoughts on how tough of a workload it'll be?

Fuck that. Drop down to 9/10 academic credits. You are setting yourself up to underperform at both LR and your firm.

The Law Review and Moot Court may be significant time commitments. I did the bare minimum in Law Review to get the pass grade and it still took up a lot of time. The work is mind numbingly boring too, which doesn't help. I did not do Moot Court, but it may take up even more time. Sounds like a lot to me.

Yeah I may drop a class. I really don't even want to do Moot Court, but it's already on my resume for OCI so I feel obligated to stick with it. Also, my firm work isn't all that taxing to be honest so I'm not too worried about that front.

I did 5 classes, an internship which took up 15 hours a week and moot ct., while commuting to both the internship and school from about an hour away. It was pretty hectic for me for a while there, so I would definitely recommend not doing that to yourself unless you really need those credits.

Thanks for the advice. I dropped a class and am at 13 credits now (10 academic). Just looking at the academic planner makes it seem a lot more manageable.

Yeah. LR counts for 2, MC counts for 1.

Drop one of the classes. You don't get a resume boost for having classes.

I am taking 16 units next trimester and LR. Was offered 20hr/wk internship at DA's office, but declined that because I'm afraid of over commitment.

15 hours a week at your firm? Hell.

I am staying on at my firm too, but I committed to precisely six hours a week.

14 hours of classes
10-19 hrs of research for RA
Legal Journal (60 or 80 [can't remember exactly] hours over semester + office hours)
20-25 hrs/wk at current firm that is going to go through December
Fall OCI

Your schedule sounds fine to me

Late to the thread, but good move dropping the class. If you have to write your note during the fall on top of editing, understand that the entire semester will be an abortion.

You can also try to find out when you will be competing for Moot Court and what obligations you will have each semester. The semester we didn't compete in Moot Court was cake our 2L year.

There are actually a few jobs that look for Moot Court experience, but they are not the prestigious ones everyone would sell their monther to get.

Appreciate the advice about MC. It seems like everyone around here downplays its importance, but I'd like to keep options open in case I don't get big/mid law straight out of school. Like you I've heard some employers say they like to see it on a resume.

Anybody with similar experiences?

I work full time and go to law school at night. Required to take 8 credits as a night student, so 2 are coming from LR for sure. Good thing I hate sleeping (sigh).

I'm a pretty big fan of sleep. And free time. Hence the concern.

Get rid of moot court. I never understood the purpose of it. You most likely won't end up an appellate lawyer and it isn't much of a resume boost unless you win a competition, which, you probably won't do. If you have LR, you don't need moot court.

Just a rising 2L here, but most firms seem to care that you're in MC or LR, and if not, at least on a regular journal.

The hierarchy in my mind goes like this: MC=LR>Non-LR journal

I tend to agree with you, but I do think that some firms looks for it. Just what I've been told. If my workload starts getting way too heavy I think I'll just blow it off and do enough to get the credit. Best of both worlds.
