Petty Theft Arrest

I recently was "arrested" (booked, but not detained) for Petty Theft. Throw all the "ur a dumass" and such as much as you like, I'm just wondering how boned I am when it comes to (1) CA Bar moral character check and (2) working any kind of government/prosecution job.

What's that? You don't already think I'm the dumbest person in the world? Well...
- Rising 2L
- Interning at the DA's office right now.

I'm going to tell my supervisor about it when I go back in on Monday, but I feel like it would be stupidly inappropriate to ask for help with it, but also my best chance at escaping with an Arrest-Charges Dropped. If it helps, I have a squeaky clean record, but I'm pretty sure a crime of moral turpitude, committed at this point in law school, with my career aspirations = not a chance.

Did you steal medicine to save gramma or did you steal condoms for you and your girly?

Is there a real chance you can get the charges dropped?

I've got a pretty good relationship with the DA's I work for, but none of those specific ones would be handling this case. If I asked for help from one of the ones I do know, they could probably put in a good word for me to avoid actual filing of charges. But, part of me feels like it might be inappropriate for me to ask for such assistance and I should just suck it up.

This. A thousand times this.

You can certainly tell them about your situation. What they decide to do about it on your behalf is up to them. But it would be wildly inappropriate to ask them for such assistance.

In terms of the Bar, I can't really say what it means for you. You might want to consult an attorney who specializes in character and fitness issues.

Consult a real attorney.

Also, way to go.
