Hey guys,
I'll be starting law school in August and living alone with my dog. In the past, I've always had a roommate or SO to help take care of him while I was at work, but now he'll be alone while I'm in class! Anyone who has a dog have any suggestions or advice on how to manage both my doggie and my classes/studies next year? Thanks!

+1
Except this will be my first time living with my dog; he used to live with my parents. He's quite energetic too, and he'll have to adjust to not having a backyard. I plan to take him for a 20-30 minute walk in the morning, go to school, drive home and walk him during my lunch break, study at the library after classes till about 5 or 6, then take him for another short 30 min walk.

This thread has a lot of useful info about having a dog in law school. I was thinking about taking mine with me, but after reading this, I decided not to.

I have a dog and its working well, but I also have some help. My wife takes the dog out and walks her in the morning. I come home at lunch to let her out, and then after classes come home and study - with usually a walk sprinkled in sometime in the afternoon. My dog also goes to day care twice a week, so on those days I stay at school during lunch, but still come home after classes because I cant study in the library. Shes a super chill dog - if I had a lab or a dog that needed a lot of exercise, it would be hard to imagine it being doable, especially if you do not have a yard for the dog to plan in. Also, tie-out chains ftw.

i have a dog and a full time job, so i don't imagine it will be much different once i'm back in school...up at 5 every morning for a 30 minute run with the dawg, do my thing all day, then another 30 minute bike ride (much faster to wear him out) when i get home from work. it does take up a lot of my free time, but he's young and energetic so it's that or have him run amok in the house and drive us all crazy...
and there's this thing called the walky dog that lets you attach your dog's leash to your bike, even when they pull hard they'll stay attached and can't run in front of the bike and get run over or knock you over. it is a godsend for an energetic dog, i can wear him out in 30 minutes instead of an hour or longer walk...
but it is a LOT OF WORK so be sure you're ready and dedicated to the dog.

Studying at home is perfect. As long as you don't have anyone at home to disturb you too much. Dogs can be a great way of relaxing too.
