Declining vision

Has anyone else noticed that their vision has worsened noticeably since school started? Talking to other people and finding it's the same for them. One guy I know never had to wear glasses until just recently. Seems to me staring at the casebook for hours on end might be causing this.

Yes, very common in law students. I never had to start wearing glasses until we started to crank out 130+ pages worth of reading & writing a day. (between cases, class notes, outlines, supplements, etc.)

I now have to have my Rx adjusted every 6 months.

On the upside, the tradition of many new lawyers is upon getting that first paycheck

I already read (recreationally) 100+ pages and stare at a computer screen 8+ hours per day. I get new contacts maybe every 18 months, and it's mostly just the astigmatism getting worse, not the nearsightedness.

One way to keep your eyes from getting worse as fast is to wear rigid gas-permeable contacts instead of soft lenses. My doc put me in them when I was 12 and my Rx was doubling every 6 months, and I've worn them 18 hours a day for the last 19 years. They keep pressure on your corneas and don't allow your lens/eyeball shape to degrade as quickly as glasses or soft contacts.

My uncorrected vision is already at the level of legal blindness. I'm curious as to whether it will get worse once I start school.

Yes, actually it has. I have a non-vision eye problem for which I see an ophthalmologist, so I can objectively say that my vision has demonstrably fallen since I started law school.

+1, it would make the three year prescription my optometrist just wrote me for law school pretty much useless.

6 months. O_O I thought normal was once a year. Do you just get the lens replaced, or just new glasses entirely?

I'm getting floaters. Anyone who knows what they are know how painfully annoying they can be.

My vision got 40% worse(!) since August. My problem is, my new RX is now so strong, my optometrist recommend I only wear them to use them for close viewing (which I would do anyway because it gives me a headache up close). I still have to wear my old prescription for mid-distance (read: computer). And I take all eyewear off when reading a book. Now, for some classes, I have to cycle between my two glasses over the course of the period... Thank you law school.

My left eye now quivers every now and then. I think it's overworked.

i went to eye doctor today and asked him about this, he said the eye naturally gets tired after long periods of reading but no, everybody is wrong in this thread (thats what he said - i dont give 2 shits either way). he said best way to avoid eye fatigue is to stare far away every 30 min. HTH

+1 I'd like to know this as well. This only started being noticeable 4-5 months ago. I switched from a pc to mac and it has a glossy screen - however, I can't imagine that would be the cause.

My prescription changed pretty significantly when I went to the eye doctor in October. But I don't know if it was lawl skool's fault since I had only been there for like 2 months.

But I've worn contacts/glasses forever, so meh.

Are there any well known ways to get only my lens and not the entire pair of glasses replaced? Looking to save a few bucks and am tired of paying up the roof.

I have talked to quite a few people who had 20/20 vision going in, and are blind as a bat coming out. Lots of reading without lots of sleep for extended periods of time is not a prescription for good eyesight.
