Anyone used these services (i.e., through bigwords.com)? I'm getting a pretty good deal for my books, but I'm wondering whether it's a scam.

I would use the amazon service, but it gives me only store credit. Some of the places through bigwords give an actual check.

amazon's credit is pretty good for some items such as outlines that don't really sell.

You can set up a seller profile on amazon and get actual money instead of just credit.

I've sold almost all my books on Amazon, usually for more cash than nay of the buyback services.

This. You'll get a lot more this way - the credit Amazon is offering is pathetic. For lower priced books (under $50) Half.com is generally better because they charge less commission than Amazon (or at least they did the last two semesters that I sold my books).

barnes and noble gives cash.

Just bumping this to say that my checks did come through. Yay!

And I will use Amazon Marketplace for this, my final semester of law school.

I use amazon buyback. Its not worth it to me to sell on the marketplace, too much hassle. With amazon buyback, you just put everything in a big box, print out their label, and you get credit.

For example of how good their prices are compared to the bookstore- our bookstore was offering $30 for our insurance law book, and amazon gave me $65. Over twice as much. I then buy my next semester's books using the credit, and they come in 2 days with free shipping (they give college kids free prime memberships). I'm taking four classes this semester, but my book bill only came to $270 for all new books, thanks to the roughly $200 I got from the buyback a few weeks ago.

Amazon BuyBack and Bigwords.com are clearly superior to the local school bookstore, but I've been talking to friends and they seem to be getting even more money through the marketplace.

At least for me, Amazon can be used for almost anything and they have good prices so getting credit from them is almost the same as cash.

Then just get Amazon credit? That's what I do because I really cbf to actually use eBay or the Marketplace.

It searches through all online buyback websites for the best prices (Amazon.com buyback doesn't always give the highest), and the others actually send checks that you can cash. In fact, FirstClassBooks even offered to match whatever else someone else offered me, provided I gave proof. Just got my checks in the mail. Pretty satisfied customer.

When's the best time to sell spring semester textbooks? Should I post them after the term's over (May), or hang on to them until July/August and then list them?
