Is the ok? I enjoyed my profs and would like to thank them for their time. Just concerned about it being in grading period/being corny.

sounds dumb to me.. unless youve talked to the professor before during the semester in office hours and stuff (in which case you dont need to email and can just go see him/her)

I always feel a little awkward walking out of exams/last days without any closure (it's the same on the other end when my students BOLT for the door on the last day). I think it would be nice but I'd wait until grades are in?

I'm not in law school yet, but this is my opinion on the situation in general

If you have a relationship with him/her and you guys talked outside of class from time to time, then go for it. Profs appreciate a thank-you note as much as anyone else. Sure it's kiss-assy, but it's no like he's going to know for the first time that you want a good grade when he gets your card; I'm pretty sure he already assumes you'd like an A, and besides, your test is going to be graded anonymously.

Just make sure you keep it real and don't get too over the top with it.

My apologies for using the "latest posts" function instead of forum topics, and I did state that it is my general opinion and not law school-specific.

Yes, it is a BAD idea. Just wait till next semester. Visit one day and mention how much you enjoyed the class or whatever you want to say. Now it is not the time

Exactly what I plan to do with one of my profs. He teaches another class I want to take, and I'd like to develop a good relationship with him.

Also, make sure to use your personal, not your official .edu email. When it comes time to ask that prof for a LOR, you want them to remember that you're the one who sent them that polite thank-you email from bong_stud420@aol.com

How about typing in a short thank you sentence at the end of your test? I know it's in major suck-up territory, but I think that would be the point...
I've always thought about doing that. Any thoughts?

I wouldn't put the professor in the position of having to deal with any personal messages or references on the test itself. The whole anonymous grading thing puts them in awkward territory. It would be more appropriate to just leave them a Christmas card in their teacher's mailbox.

This is why I do Christmas cards. It can show your appreciation without actually having to write a big "thank you" note. Granted, I only sent cards to all of them because I have seen all of them in their offices more than once. If a professor had no idea who I was, I wouldn't. You would come off as a brown-noser.

I'm in the middle of my first semester finals, so I'm an expert on nothing. However, I have thought about it, and if i were to do anything at all before grades, it would be in the form of a Christmas / Holiday card. I tend more in the direction of seeing them in person in January though. I will probably go for feedback on my exam, and a little advice on the rest of law school. It should all work out from there.

This reminds me of a GREAT bong comment my civ pro professor made. See my post in the "best law school quotes" thread. He was pretty epic on the quotes front.

You know what's better than an impersonal card or email? Going to their office and being friendly. I get the impression that a lot of office visits are to bitch or ask stuff about exams. Just going and asking for advice on career choices and things like that might be most welcome.

You should have went to their last office hour and personally thanked them there.

I know for sure my profs appreciated that a lot from their reactions.

Tons of students send them e-mails and many send cards, but very few thank them directly in person.

You are aware that your professor is probably receiving a six figure salary for his 'time' (which, by the way, isn't exactly an 80 hours a week schedule) right?

I just find it a strange concept that you want to thank someone for doing their job, especially when that job is exceedingly well paid and highly coveted (i.e. many would kill for it).

This. You never know if you'll need to ask them for recommendations later.

I sent all my profs an email after grades came out. It was sincere. I only emailed the ones I liked.
