In the last category myself. Wondering about the rest of the tls'ers.

It's an 8 hour/$500 flight. No thanks.

Would be interesting to see the breakdown between 1L/2L/3L.

I am staying at school.

I have friends here and my family stresses me out.

The last thing I need is more stress. I'll probably just take the day off from studying and relax.

Another question for those staying: what are you doing for Thanksgiving? Celebrating with local friends, other law students, or not celebrating at all?

Local BFF + her husband, my bf, his best friend & my old assistant. Maybe my ex-bf and his new bf.

It's my favorite holiday and surprisingly unawkward.

I second this, I feel like there would be a huge disparity between 1Ls staying to study and 3Ls.

1L, staying because of logistics and studying, will celebrate by tailgating this Saturday and on Thanksgiving, I will probably eat CPK frozen pizza.

1L, going home but home is 15 minutes away and I'll be studying most of the time save for Thursday.

One of my friends is hosting a Thanksgiving dinner, which I'll go to. Almost all of my close friends are staying anyway, so, I'm thinking it might be more fun than going home. Going home either requires flying (which is like $700, for an hour and a half flight?), or driving 8 hours (which I absolutely hate, for just a few days at home - And at home, I would literally be able to get no studying done). No thanks. I'm going home in 3 weeks anyway.

2L here. Not going home. It's a 12 hour drive or a pain-in-the-ass plane ride. Plus, I think my mom is coming up here to visit my cousin anyway. And I really need to start reading for my classes. Oh, and I have a 30 page note due after Thanksgiving. I guess I should start on that too.

I told my parents that I would have thanksgiving with them, but outside of the dinner, there were no guarantees for actually seeing me.

Yes, I'll be home for most of it. I also only live 10 minutes from my lawl school.

Going home the evening before Thanksgiving Day. Leaving the evening after Thanksgiving Day. I'm attending law school out-of-state.

I'm staying at school to study. It will make my Christmas break a lot more enjoyable to know that I did everything that I could have done to get good grades. If I do poorly on my exams, I want it to be because my classmates are smarter/more prepared than I was and not because I didn't put in my best effort.

People who are not american and from foreign countries that do not celebrate it(although I did force my parents to cook a turkey one year when my SO came over, they were very confused)

Wow.. My school is a ghost town right now.

I'm going home Tues-Sat. Going to catch up on some Contracts reading while I'm there, but that's it. Taking a break makes a huuuuge difference to my productivity, and I know it sounds weird but it kind of makes me think clearer too. My school also has another two full weeks of class after Thanksgiving before exams, though. If I had like, one week, I would probably take a shorter break, maybe Wed-Fri.

lol k I guess I just dont find those as valid reasons. but whatev

1. it's once a year...suck up the plane ride and ticket

2. study earlier...you had the whole semester to prepare for just 1 exam.

3. thanksgiving doesn't equal christmas...I guess I just put thanksgiving as the most important holiday of the year...personal opinion I guess....and it doesn't have to be an "American" holiday...only nubz say that. Call it something else, but it's just a day do be thankful... because quite frankly...I dont think many people say thanks every day.

This is just assuming students families live in the U.S and they go to U.S law schools. Use Southwest and plane rides from coast to coast can't be more than 5-6 hours. Or you can cry about the plane ticket/flight...to each his own
