I'm a 1L who is starting to think about how to set up my future outlines. I've finished the first unit/subject in a few of my classes, so I figured it might be a good time to think about outlining what I've done.

The thing is -- I've only got a few pages worth of notes for these completed subjects, not counting the case briefs. I don't take superfluous notes. Is it really worth condensing only a few pages of notes in to something even smaller? My notes themselves feel like outlines.

To determine whether or not your notes are "superfluous" and thus whether or not they should be included in your outline, you have to ask but one question - is this bit of information going to help me on the exam?

The answer to this, admittedly, may not be obvious. I have a feeling it would be natural to create an outline, start taking practice exams with it, and find there is some information that can be cut out/condensed.

I guess a more practical answer is to just think about how you are going to organize everything. What your notes look like PROBABLY won't be what your outline looks like, so I'd work on just compartmentalizing everything.
