Yeah... so in my property class, we have now finished 2 full weeks of class and have yet to even touch Pierson v Post. Theoretically we should be 6 or 7 cases in according to the syllabus, but my prof. keeps going off on tangents explaining the subjectivity of law or a basic primer on civ pro. It's kind of getting annoying because I really actually am interested in this stuff.... not stories about how the basic nuances of law that most of us are already aware of.

Not that uncommon for a class or two to work this way as a 1L. You'll catch up later on, I have no concern :P

PSA: If prof has assigned reading (e.g., in the syllabus), then even if prof doesn't discuss the reading in class, or only tangentially does so, you are responsible for that material and you should therefore be reading it.

eh, in my experience like 99.9% of exam points came from the class discussions. I can't point to any material we didn't cover in class but were assigned that was tested at all. Obviously it could happen, it just never did in my first year of LS.

Yeah the problem with the assignments is that he instructed us to prepare the readings for class in advance based on what we are on at that moment. So right now the syllabus has us like 60-80 pages in the books, his e-mail instructions have us about 15 pages in.

I had a complete opposite experience in some classes. Some professors almost seemed to purposefully test on material they did not cover in class. Some even went so far as having major issues that were not reviewed in class but were major parts of the assigned reading. Totally depends on the professor.
