Best hornbooks for Property, Contracts, and Civ. Pro?

Post by BCLS » Thu Aug 26, 2010 5:48 pm

Hi Everyone,

I recently bought the Prosser for Torts and I'm wondering what other hornbooks are recommended for the above classes. I have the E&E's, Gilberts property outline, and Chirlstein for contracts. Thanks a ton.

Better to ask the 2Ls who go to your school. The only hard and fast rule is to use the hornbook your teacher wrote if he/she did in fact write one.

The best thing you can do is ask your teachers what they recommend for their class. There are a lot of mediocre hornbooks out there, and some that actually include factual errors regarding the law.

Sounds great I'll hold off on the other hornbooks until I talk to them. Prosser should be pretty universal though right?

Yeah. Prosser has been the standby for Torts forever. I'd wait on the others for sure, though. Different strokes. Not all courses are taught with the same pedagogical sequence in mind.

Some of my professors hinted that they would prefer students not use supplements, but the 2Ls I talked to said to use them. Then again my Ks prof. recommended the hornbook she likes. So yeah, ask around.

Thanks for the help friends. I only didn't ask about con law since I have that next semester. I'll google my professors and see if they have any hornbooks.

Chirelstein for Contracts is brief and on point.

The term is used pretty loosely from what I understand. Chirelstein is one of many commercial outlines.
