LEEWS Audio Program and CD Copyright Protection Issues

Have any of you who have completed the LEEWS audio program had issues getting the CD's to work? I have flown through the first 3 discs, but now 4 is giving me a hell of a time. Basically, my computer won't read it.

I called and they said there is a complicated way to turn off my firewall and this is what I have to do, but I think my firewall is off and it still won't read the CD. Apparently my 'introduction sheet' has instructions, but I don't know what that sheet is; I may have lost it?

This is frustrating, because the program has been great, but I was hoping to finish before I leave for school early on Saturday morning, and time is ticking. Anyone else experience this?

Is it a used disc with scratches and stuff?

No, it is a completely new disc that is working fine, but when I pop in discs 4 and 5 there is an image of a CD with a lock on it and it asks me what I want to do, however my computer doesn't actually perform whatever function I select ('import', 'play audio cd', etc.). The box itself warns "copy protection on some CDs may impede up or downloading. See advice on introduction sheet", but I can't seem to find said advice in my packet.

I appreciate the advice though. Generally I'm against torrents, but it is something to keep in mind.

I had trouble with the CDs too. You should try and convert the CDs into WMAs for your computer. Once you do that, it will install that license that it can't seem to find on the internet. Eventually, after it's done RIPPING the CD, then you should be able to listen to them. Anyway, I had to tinker w/ it alot b/c it wasn't working. Eventually it did!!!

Seems like torrenting something you own is ethical, if not precisely legal. It's not like you're downloading stuff you haven't paid for.

download 'exact audio copy'.. you can then copy the wave files and burn CDs, or convert to MP3

i had to do this to get LEEWS in itunes

Though 95%+ torrents are pirated material, I'm pretty sure torrenting falls under the same principles as DVD copying and ripping your CDs onto an iPod.

Sorry to revive this post, but I'm having the same problem that the OP had. Basically, I can't get around the encryptions on disk 4 and 5. I tried disabling my firewall and rebooting as instructed on the introduction sheet, but no luck. Does anyone know of any solutions to this problem?

And for those of you who suggest that I torrent it, I should add that I have been in sanctioned in the past for torrenting and I am paranoid that the FBI is keeping tabs on my IP address to make sure that I don't do it again.

Any advice at all will be very much appreciated.

ditto on the Bump.

I have the same issues as OP, I am able to get the program to run, install the license, but then it behaves as if there are no audio tracks. I just got 2 replacement CDs and the exact same thing is happening. When I explore the CD in Windows there aren't even audio tracks listed. Running Windows 7, tried in XP mode since the handout said it worked on XP, nada.

Anyone able to get these to work? Many thanks in advance :D

edit: Also tried to download them to my computer, same issues - it behaves as if there are no tracks listed (even put empty folders in the directory I selected)

A note on the legality of torrenting intellectual property that you technically already own. I can't say anything one way or the other, but I'll just leave this here...

Requirements for Federal Criminal Copyright liability:
1) A copyright exists,
2) you infringed copyright (no fair use exception),
3) you acted “willfully”,
4) you've infringed at least 10 copies of one or more copyrighted works with a total retail value of more than $2,500 within a 180-day period

The Fair Use Exception is a safety valve that allows de minimis infringement; allows fair use of a copyrighted work for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, or research is not an infringement of a copyright
Consider these three factors considered in determining “fair use”:
1) Purpose and character of use (commercial use vs. nonprofit/educational)
2) Nature of copyrighted work
3) Amount and substantiality of portion used

LEEWs is retarded and pointless. IRAC is all you need to know.

I used VLC to play mine when they wouldn't work normally. Worked just fine, though if I recall it didn't show the time at the bottom properly or something. Just google VLC and download it from the first link.

Dude, don't use TLS to try to get around copyright.
